Small spaces

One space in which many well-to-do Americans are rather spoiled is in our bathrooms.

In our Lyon Airbnb, I've estimated the bathroom at somewhere between 25 and 30 square feet. Probably closer to 25. This was pretty easy, as I have about a six foot wingspan. The bathroom is basically square and I cannot fully extend my arms in either direction. One side seems about a half-foot shy of six feet; the other side is even shorter – the length from fingertips of one hand to elbow of the opposite arm, which should be slightly less than five feet. Do the math.

Our Paris hotel's bath was even smaller.

When we sold our townhouse in Raleigh, one potential buyer complained about the master bath. Not luxurious enough.

If you're planning a Europe trip, prepare to get over your fancy bathroom selves, my friends.
